I got a few emails with the same question, that lead me to had a post explaining the different.
IDE - Integrated Drive Electronics. IDE is the Protocol to connect HDD to mother bourd, splits to Parallel and Serial ATA connections.
PATA (Parallel ATA) - Not very popular today, use flat wide ribbon cable and flat paralel connector.
SATA (Serial ATA) - A drive who use low voltage cable with SATA connector.
